Ordering and Timescales
Placing an Order for a Headstone
At Legacy Memorials, our experienced advisors will guide you through every step of the process—from selecting the perfect headstone to obtaining permission from the cemetery or crematorium, and finalizing the inscription.
Ordering Process
How to Order a Headstone
Step 1:
Speak with one of our advisors about your chosen design and inscription. If you’re unsure, we can guide you through the decision-making process over the phone, via email, or by arranging a home visit.
Some cemeteries and churchyards have restrictions on size and materials, and we will check these for you before proceeding.
Step 2:
Once you are fully satisfied with your choice, we will confirm the price and request a 20% deposit. Payment is only accepted via bank transfer.
Step 3:
After receiving the necessary permit from the cemetery or crematorium, we will request a further payment towards the headstone, including the permit fee. Once these payments are received, we will begin the manufacturing, engraving, and installation process.
If you have chosen to include a photo plaque, we will require a high-quality image, which can be sent via email or post.
More details about permits and inscriptions can be found in our FAQ section.
Please note:
Obtaining a permit typically takes 2-3 weeks from the deposit payment date, but it may take longer depending on the cemetery. While we have no control over this, we will follow up on your behalf.
Payment Terms
First Instalment:
A 20% deposit is required when placing your order.
Second Instalment:
75% of the remaining balance, plus burial ground fees, is due upon receipt of the approved cemetery or church permit.
Final Payment:
The remaining balance is payable upon completion—only once your headstone has been installed.
Note:
All payments must be made via bank transfer. Exceptions may apply.
Timescales
When can a headstone be placed on a grave?
A headstone can generally be installed six months after the last burial, allowing the ground to settle. However, if cremated remains are interred, the headstone can be placed immediately as no settling period is required.
How long does it take to make a headstone?
For our standard designs, the manufacturing and installation process takes approximately 4-5 months from the date we receive both the cemetery permit and your second instalment.
The permit application is handled by us and is usually straightforward. However, if you have selected a unique or custom design, additional time may be required to clarify details with the cemetery, which can affect the final installation date.
While we always aim to complete orders as quickly as possible, some factors, such as shipping delays and council processing times, are beyond our control. Some headstones may be ready in less than 4-5 months, while others may take longer. We will keep you updated on your order’s progress throughout.
If you have chosen a bespoke headstone, manufacturing and delivery may take longer than 4-6 months, depending on the complexity of the design.
